fusiln.1

Brit. /ˈfjuːz(ɪ)l/, U.S. /ˈfjuz(ə)l/
Forms: Middle English–1500s fusille, 1600s fusile, fusill, 1600s– fusil.
Etymology: < Old French fu(i)sel (French fuseau) < popular Latin *fūsellus, diminutive of fūsus spindle. The modern French heraldic term is fusée ; but the adjective fuselé , = fusilly adj., seems to show that fusel was formerly used in this sense.
