单词 gambalocke
释义

gambalocken.

Forms: 1600s gambalock, 1600s gambalocke, 1600s gamberlooke, 1700s gambalook, 1700s gamberlook.
Origin: Probably a borrowing from Turkish. Etymons: Ottoman Turkish yağmurlyk, Italian giamberlucco.
Etymology: Probably ultimately < Ottoman Turkish yağmurlyk (Turkish yağmurluk) raincoat ( < yağmur rain + -luḳ, suffix forming derivatives), although the word is first attested in Ottoman Turkish later (1680 or earlier) than in languages which appear to have borrowed the word. It probably entered English via Italian (rare) †giamberlucco kind of long-sleeved coat (16th cent. as †giarbellucco; now zamberlucco).
Obsolete.
A type of riding coat worn in the Near and Middle East.
