Etymology: < Anglo-Norman generalté, variant of generalité generality n.; compare also Anglo-Norman and Old French, Middle French generauté (see generality n.). In later use (especially in branch II.) influenced semantically by French généralité generality n. With sense 4 compare earlier generality n. 4 and discussion at that entry.
