Etymology: < Anglo-Norman and Middle French genice heifer (c1170 in Old French; French génisse ) < an unattested post-classical Latin form *jenicia , variant of *junicia < classical Latin iūnic- , iūnīx heifer (literally ‘young animal’) < the stem of iuvenis young (see juvenile adj.) + an extension forming the feminine. Compare post-classical Latin genicia (13th cent. in British sources; < French).
Obsolete. rare.
