Etymology: < post-classical Latin Gentilista (1594 or earlier) < the name of John Valentine Gentilis (c1520–66) + post-classical Latin -ista -ist suffix.
Obsolete.
A follower of John Valentine Gentilis (c1520–66), an adherent of Socinianism executed for his beliefs in Bern in 1566 (see Socinianism n.).In quot. 1661 in Valentine gentilist.
