Etymology: < post-classical Latin geldabilis (also gildabilis) (frequently from 12th cent. in British sources) < geldare geld v.2 + classical Latin -bilis -ble suffix. Compare guildable adj., and also later geld v.2Compare post-classical Latin geldabilis (noun; also gildabilis) geld district (from 12th cent. in British sources), and also Anglo-Norman geldable, adjective and noun (both 14th cent. or earlier).
