单词 gelded
释义

geldedadj.

Brit. /ˈɡɛldᵻd/, U.S. /ˈɡɛldəd/
Forms: see geld v.1 and -ed suffix1; also Middle English gellud.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: geld v.1, -ed suffix1.
Etymology: < geld v.1 + -ed suffix1. Compare gelt adj.Compare Old English gildet (of an ox) gelded, castrated (in an isolated attestation), which probably reflects an Old English formation independent of the Scandinavian borrowing represented by geld v.1 (compare yeld adj.) and, if it is interpreted as adjectival use of a past participle, implies currency in Old English of an inherited weak verb *gieldan or (with different ablaut: e -grade) *gildan , cognate with the Scandinavian forms cited at geld v.1:OE Antwerp-London Gloss. (2011) 59 Triennis, þryfinter uel sumer gildet o[x].
