Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin geogonia.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin geogonia ( T. Burnet Telluris theoria sacra (1681) ii. vii. 132) < classical Latin geo- geo- comb. form + post-classical Latin -gonia -gony comb. form. With the β. forms compare French géogonie (1765 or earlier) and German Geogonie (1752 or earlier, often denoting an account of the origin of the earth). Compare later geogeny n.
