单词 gingerness
释义

gingernessn.

Brit. /ˈdʒɪn(d)ʒənᵻs/, U.S. /ˈdʒɪndʒərnᵻs/
Origin: Either (i) formed within English, by derivation. Or (ii) a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: ginger adj.2, -ness suffix; gingerliness n.
Etymology: Either < ginger adj.2 + -ness suffix, or an alteration of gingerliness n., with loss of the medial syllable.Compare the following earlier passage, which was taken as an example of this word by some 19th-cent. dictionaries, but probably shows a typographical error for gingerliness n. (compare quot. 1583 at that entry): 1585 P. Stubbes Anat. Abuses (ed. 4) sig. Gii Their minsednesse in words and speaches, their gingernesse [1583 gingerlynes] in tripping on toes like young Goates.
= gingerliness n.
