Etymology: < Old French g(u)isarme, gisarne, etc. (also jusarme), = Provençal gus-, jusarma, Italian giusarma, Old Spanish bisarma, of unknown origin. The English pronunciation with (g) seems to be authenticated by the alliteration in Middle English poetry.
