Etymology: < Gomorrah, Gomorrha, on analogy of other names in -ean. According to the system used in the Bible of 1611, the normal transliteration of Hebrew ʿămōrā would be *Amorah. The Greek form, however, was Γόμοῤῥα; in the New Testament this was adopted as Gomorrha, while in the Old Testament the translators employed the hybrid spelling Gomorrah.
