Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin grandinōsus.
Etymology: < classical Latin grandinōsus abounding in hailstorms, in post-classical Latin also (of a swelling or nodule) containing hardened or gritty material (1584 or earlier; 1736 in the passage translated in quot. 1737 at sense 2) < grandin- , grandō hail (see grando n.1) + -ōsus -ous suffix.
Obsolete. rare.
