Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Probably partly a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin antīquus , -ed suffix2; antique v., -ed suffix1.
Etymology: Probably originally < classical Latin antīquus (see antique adj.) + -ed suffix2; compare earlier antiquated adj., antique adj. In later use partly < antique v. + -ed suffix1.
