The third of the three canonical divisions of the Hebrew Scriptures; the books contained in this division (see note); = Kethubim n. Formerly also more generally: sacred writings; scripture. Cf. hagiography n. 2. The two other divisions of the Hebrew Scriptures are the Law (see law n.¹ 10c) and the Prophets (see prophet n. 2a). The Hagiographa contains the Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Canticles, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, Esther, Daniel, Ezra–Nehemiah, and Chronicles.
