单词 haking
释义

hakingn.1

Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: hack n.4, hake n.2, -ing suffix1.
Etymology: Origin uncertain. Perhaps (i) < hack n.4 (although this is first attested later) + -ing suffix1 (compare hatch n.1 3, heck n.1 2, and hake n.3 5), or perhaps (ii) < hake n.2 (compare discussion of the place-name evidence at that entry) + -ing suffix1.Earlier currency, apparently in the sense ‘kind of fish-weir’, is perhaps implied by the minor place names Haking, Blackburn, Lancashire (1258; now Hacking), Hackyng, Salford, Lancashire (1278; now Hacking or Hacken), Haking, Teignbridge, Devon (1422; now Hackney), all of which settlements are located on rivers.
