Etymology: < German hapaxanth (1871 in mehrjährig-hapaxanth , or earlier; < ancient Greek ἅπαξ once (see hapax legomenon n.) + ἄνθος flower: see anthos n.) + -ic suffix. Compare slightly later German hapaxanthisch (1876 or earlier).
