Etymology: Imitative; compare -le suffix 3. Compare English regional (Kent) hussle (of a person) to wheeze, to breathe noisily (19th cent.).Perhaps compare German hecheln (of a dog) to pant.
U.S. regional (chiefly south-eastern).
intransitive. Esp. of a dog: to pant loudly or heavily.
