Etymology: < antlia n. + -ate suffix2. Compare scientific Latin Antliata, former name of a group including flies, lice, and ticks ( J. C. Fabricius Systema entomologiae (1775)). N.E.D. (1885) gives the pronunciation as (æ·ntliˌeit) /ˈæntlɪeɪt/.
Entomology. Obsolete.
Having, or in the form of, a sucking proboscis; haustellate.
