Etymology: In α. forms < hen n.1 + party n. In β. forms < the genitive of hen n.1 + party n.β. forms showing the genitive in the first element are frequent in sense 2 in texts from Australia and New Zealand, and may reflect association with buck's party at buck n.1 Additions, which is frequently used in these varieties for the equivalent all-male events. Compare similarly β. forms at hen night n.
