Etymology: < French Henri Deux, typically written Henri II (equivalent to ‘Henri the Second’ in English), name of the king of France 1547–59.
As a modifier.
1. Designating fine, white, glazed ceramic ware decorated with intricate patterns and made in France in the 16th cent.; = St. Porchaire n. at saint adj. and n. Compounds 1d. Also: designating ceramics made in imitation of this style.Only a small number of pieces of Henri II ware survive and since the 16th cent. they have been considered luxury objects.
