A military alliance between Australia, New Zealand, and the United States, binding the three countries to cooperate on security matters, originally and chiefly those relating to the Pacific area. Also called Pacific Security Treaty. Frequently attributive.The alliance was established as a trilateral defence pact in 1951, but the status of the agreement between the United States and New Zealand has been unclear since 1984, when a dispute arose over port access for American nuclear vessels.
