1. Album-oriented rock, a type of popular music typically characterized by long, free-form album tracks rather than short, tightly-structured singles; esp. any of various styles in which a rock backing is combined with softer, more melodic elements and often vocal harmonies. Now frequently depreciative, with the implication of something slickly executed but bland.
