Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin Homalogonatae , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Homalogonatae (A. F. Garrod 1874, in Proc. Royal Zool. Soc. 116: see quot. 1874; < ancient Greek ὁμαλός even, level, equal (see homalographic adj.) + γονατ- , γόνυ knee: see polygonate adj.1) + -ous suffix.
Ornithology. Now disused.
Belonging to the division Homalogonatae of birds, comprising those which have a rectus femoris or ambiens muscle in the leg.
