Biochemistry and Medicine.
A biologically active amine present in animal and plant tissues and stored in the granules of mast cells and basophils, serving esp. as a vasodilator, a regulator of gastric secretion and capillary permeability, and a mediator of allergic reactions.Histamine is derived from histidine by decarboxylation.Systematic name: 2-(4-imidazolyl)ethylamine; C5H9N3.
