Etymology: < hexa- comb. form + -merous comb. form. Compare Hellenistic Greek ἑξαμερής in six parts (in the Orphica, describing the hexameter). The graphic abbreviation 6-merous may represent a separate word pronounced /ˈsɪksmərəs/ (compare five-merous adj.).
