Etymology: < Greek Ἀϕροδίτη (see Aphrodite n.1), taken as a mineral name from its ending -ite suffix1, in sense of foam-stone, aphrite being already occupied.
Mineralogy.
A soft opaque milk-white mineral, consisting mostly of bisilicate of magnesium, allied to Sepiolite or meerschaum.
