Palaeontology.
A. n.
A primate of the tribe Hominini, comprising those species regarded as human, directly ancestral to humans, or very closely related to humans. Some authors regard the tribe Hominini as including only the genus Homo and the Australopithecines, thus making hominin equivalent to hominid n. 1. Others define the tribe so as to include the chimpanzees, and sometimes also the gorillas.
