Etymology: Partly < Anglo-Norman and Middle French honorableté, Middle French honnourableté, honneurableté quality of being honourable or deserving respect (13th cent. in Old French) < honorable honourable adj. + -eté -ity suffix; and partly < post-classical Latin honorabilitas honorific title (6th cent.), mark of honour (9th cent.), worthiness of respect (12th cent. in British sources) < honōrābilis honourable adj. + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix).
