Etymology: < astro- comb. form + -mancer comb. form, after astromancy n. Compare magastromancer n.Apparently re-formed in the late 19th cent. Compare Middle French astromanthe , Middle French, French †astromante , French †astromant (1587 in two isolated attestations, subsequently occasionally attested in the first half of the 19th cent.; < Hellenistic Greek ἀστρόμαντις : see astromantic n. and adj.).
