Etymology: Abbreviation of Tagalog Hukbalahap, < initial syllables of hukbó army + bayan people, country + laban against + hapon Japanese (i.e. hukbó ng bayan laban sa hapon people's army against the Japanese).
A guerrilla movement in the Philippines, originally against the Japanese in World War II, later popularly identified with communism. Also attributive.
