Either of two powders formulated to provide a convenient and portable means of generating hydrogen: (a) a mixture of aluminium filings, mercuric chloride, and potassium cyanide; (b) a mixture of ferrosilicon, sodium hydroxide, and usually also calcium hydroxide.
