In humans and other vertebrates: the belly; the part of the trunk of body between the chest and the pelvis; the cavity of the body bounded by the diaphragm, the spine, and the upper or anterior edges of the pelvis (sometimes also including the pelvic cavity). In early use also: the layer of skin, subcutaneous tissue, muscle, and fascia (sometimes including the parietal peritoneum) forming the anterior or inferior wall of this cavity (now rare or disused).The abdomen contains most of the organs involved in digestion (including the liver and pancreas) as well as the spleen, kidneys, and adrenal glands.
