Etymology: < post-classical Latin hysteralgia (1542 or earlier) < Hellenistic Greek ὑστεραλγία pain in the womb < ancient Greek ὑστέρα womb (see hystero- comb. form2) + -αλγία -algia comb. form.Compare French hystéralgie (1721 or earlier). Compare also ancient Greek ὑστεραλγής causing pains in the womb. With the form hysteralgy compare -y suffix3.
Medicine. Now historical and rare.
Pain in or attributed to the uterus.
