Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: ice n., spar n.2
Etymology: < ice n. + spar n.2, after German Eisspath (A. G. Werner 1809 or earlier), so called on account of its forming thin, glassy crystals.
Mineralogy. Now rare.
A transparent form of feldspar with a glassy lustre, found in lavas from the volcano Vesuvius.
