Etymology: < I pron. + -ism suffix. Compare earlier I-hood n., and later me-ism n., I-ness n.
(a) Metaphysics the reference of all things to one's own consciousness, egoism. (b) The frequent use of ‘I’, egotism of style.Sense (b) apparently represents an isolated use.
