单词 i-mene
释义

i-meneadj.adv.

Etymology: Cognate with Old Frisian gemēne , Middle Dutch gemene (Dutch gemeen ), Old Saxon gimēni (Middle Low German gemeine ), Old High German gimeini (Middle High German gemeine , German gemein ; > Swedish gemen , Danish gemen ), Gothic gamains common, ultimately (with Germanic base of y- prefix as prefix) < the Indo-European base of classical Latin commūnis common adj.The pre-Germanic base is believed to be a participial derivative of the root ‘to change’ (as in classical Latin mūtāre mutate v., Hittite mutāi- to exchange, Sanskrit mithas mutually, Gothic maidjan to change, falsify, inmaidjan to transform, metamorphose, Old Church Slavonic měniti , Russian menjat′ , Latvian mainīt ), whence classical Latin mūnus (see muneral adj.; compare Old Church Slavonic měna change, Lithuanian mainas change, exchange, mainyti to change), and perhaps (with the notion of change for the worse) the Germanic base meaning ‘wicked’ (see man adj.).
