单词 | arrivance |
释义 | arrivancen. Now rare. Arrival. Originally: spec. arrival by boat or ship; landing, disembarkation. Also occasionally: people arriving, considered collectively. The sense ‘people arriving, considered collectively’ is first attested in Shakespeare Othello ii. i. 43, where the First Folio has arrivancie (= arrivancy) in the same sense, and in later use seemingly occurs only in echoes of or allusions to Shakespeare's use.
