Etymology: < imperial adj. + -ly suffix2. Compare post-classical Latin imperialiter (6th cent.), Middle French imperialement, imperiallement, French impérialement (1208 in Old French as emperialment in an isolated attestation, subsequently from a1470), Spanish imperialmente (1385 in an apparently isolated attestation as imperialment, subsequently from the early 17th cent.).
In an imperial manner; spec. (a) as or by an emperor or supreme ruler; with imperial authority; (b) with a commanding style or demeanour; majestically; autocratically; (c) in relation to an empire.
