Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin in corpore.
Etymology: < scientific Latin in corpore (compare quot. 1892; already in classical Latin in a non-technical sense; < classical Latin in in prep. + corpore , ablative of corpus corpus n.), perhaps shortened < in corpore vivo in a living body (1756 or earlier). Compare in vivo adv.Compare the following slightly earlier example of scientific Latin in corpore vivo in a living body, in an English context:1886 Trans. Soc. Med. Officers Health 1885–6 120 The only absolute test of the pathogenic nature of an organism was the experiment in corpore vivo.
Now rare.
