Etymology: < post-classical Latin immarcescere (1578 or earlier), former reading at Horace Satires 2. 7. 107 (as immarcescunt , 3rd person plural present indicative, where modern editions have inamarcēscunt they become bitter or distasteful; < classical Latin im- im- prefix2 + marcēscere : see marcescent adj.) + -ence suffix. Compare earlier immarcescible adj.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
The quality or condition of being unfading or incorruptible. Cf. immarcescible adj.
