Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian incordare.
Etymology: < Italian incordare to develop a hernia (apparently 1572 or earlier, implied in incordato incorded adj.; reflexive), to cause (a horse) to develop a hernia (1608 or earlier; 14th cent. in sense ‘(of the neck) to become stiff’) < in- in- prefix3 + corda cord n.1 Compare earlier incorded adj., incording n.
Farriery. Obsolete. rare.
intransitive. Of a horse, esp. a stallion: to develop a hernia, esp. an inguinal hernia. Also transitive: to cause to develop a hernia.
