Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; probably modelled on an Italian lexical item. Etymons: in- prefix1, cord n.1, -ed suffix1.
Etymology: < in- prefix1 + cord n.1 + -ed suffix1, probably after Italian incordato, although this is apparently first attested slightly later in this sense (1572 or earlier as adjective; 1548 or earlier as noun in sense ‘hernia’). Compare incording n.With the form encorded compare en- prefix1.
Farriery. Obsolete.
Of a horse, esp. a stallion: affected with a hernia, esp. an inguinal hernia.
