Origin: Apparently a borrowing from French. Etymon: French enfoundrer.
Etymology: Apparently < Anglo-Norman enfoundrer, Anglo-Norman and Middle French enfondrer to plunge to the bottom, submerge, swallow up, engulf (see enfounder v.), with prefix substitution (see in- prefix3). Compare (in different sense) enfounder v.
Obsolete.
transitive. To submerge, flood. In passive in quots.
