Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin aberuncat-, aberuncare.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin aberuncat-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of aberuncare to uproot, abolish (8th cent. in a British source), variant or alteration of classical Latin averruncāre averruncate v., probably arising from reinterpretation of the Latin verb as deriving from ab- ab- prefix + ēruncāre eruncate v. (compare averruncate v. 2).
Now rare and archaic.
