Chemistry.
A non-fermentable saccharine substance (C6H12O6 + 2H2O), isomeric with glucose, discovered by Scherer (1850) in the fluid contained in the cardiac muscular tissue of the ox, and since found in other parts of the body and in several plants. Originally called inosin.
