Etymology: < late or medieval Latin type *intenebrāre , < in- (in- prefix3) + tenebrāre to make dark, < tenebræ darkness: compare Italian intenebrare ‘to endarken’ (Florio), Old French entenebrer (13th cent. in Godefroy).
