Etymology: < classical Latin articulāris of or affecting the joints, in post-classical Latin also of the nature of an article (from 4th cent. in grammarians) < articulus article n. + -āris -ar suffix1. Compare Middle French articuler (c1380 in sense A. 2). Compare earlier articularly adv. and later articulary adj.1In sense B. 2 after French articulaire ( Cuvier Recherches sur les ossemens fossiles (1824) (ed. 2) V. ii. 272).
