Etymology: modern Latin (L. H. Fischer Orthoptera Europæa (1853) I. 37), < Latin instar form, figure, likeness.
Entomology.
Any of the stages in the life of an insect or other arthropod between successive ecdyses, including the stage between hatching from the egg and the first ecdysis; also (and originally), an individual arthropod at a particular stage.
