Etymology: < classical Latin internuntius (in post-classical Latin also internuncius (7th cent.)) messenger, intermediary < inter- inter- prefix + nuntius nuntius n. Compare earlier internuncio n.
1. A messenger or mediator between two parties; esp. (in early use) an intermediary between God and humankind. Cf. internuncio n. 2.
