Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin investigabilis.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin investigabilis (Vetus Latina) < classical Latin in- in- prefix4 + post-classical Latin vestigabilis able to be traced (4th cent.; < classical Latin vestigāre vestigate v. + -bilis -ble suffix), after Hellenistic Greek ἀνεξιχνίαστος (Septuagint, New Testament). Compare later ininvestigable adj., uninvestigable adj.Post-classical Latin investigabilis occurs in Vetus Latina in Romans 11:33, where the Vulgate has ininvestigabilis ininvestigable adj. Compare Middle French investigable, in the same sense (beginning of the 15th cent.).
Obsolete.
Impossible to trace, discover, understand, or examine; unsearchable, unfathomable; inscrutable; = uninvestigable adj.
